About Atebubu College of Education
Atebubu College of Education is a Teacher Education College in Atebubu (Atebubu-Amantin Municipal), Bono East Region. The College was founded in October 1965. The College was the first second cycle institution, and the only Teacher Training College in the eastern corridor of the then Brong-Ahafo Region, of which Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo regions were born.
The College began with eighty male students. It started with four-year Post Middle Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ courses. Other programmes the College has gone through are 2-year Post Secondary, and 3-year Post Secondary. In the 1975/76 academic year, on admitting female students, the College became co-educational. In September 2004, the first batch of students was admitted into the college to pursue a three-year course for Diploma in Basic Education.
“Atebubu College of Education is a world-class academic center of excellence, spearheading Ghana’s pursuit of Teacher training. Our campus is located in an ideal place inside the city of Atebubu. With an estimated eight-mile square of aesthetic beauty, a rising and falling landscape, state-of-the-art buildings, a wide range of trees, long stretches of well-cut lawns, and conspicuous flora beautification, our community provides the right atmosphere for the holistic development of students.
There are over 50 student groups and organizations on campus. However, that number keeps expanding because students are encouraged to start new clubs to fit their interests—and they don’t hesitate to do so! All student groups are governed and managed by students, and there is literally something for everybody.”
Motto: “Wisdom and Service”
the College runs dual-mode Open Distance Learning (ODL) for untrained teachers. The College is now a tertiary institution, affiliated with the University of Cape Coast and currently running 4-year Bachelor in Primary Education, 4-Year Bachelor in Early Childhood Education and 4-Year Bachelor in JHS Education programmes. The College has six Academic Departments: Education Studies, Science, Social Sciences, Languages, Mathematics and ICT, and Creative Arts.
